Thursday Thrift and Country Threads Visit
I was going to tell you about my epic weekend, but technically it is a since-last-Wednesday post. I had a great time visiting and thrifting my way to my parent’s home, to Garner, Iowa, and back. My thrift scores included:
- Several boxes of Trivial Pursuit @$1 each. We will have the cards out at the table during our wedding reception.
- Canning jars @$.25 each. Our centerpieces are canning jars+white buttons+pillar candles.
- LOTS of yarn and thread! Some were $1 each and others were part of a $4 grab bag. I will be using the coral acrylic yarn to crochet a crab from Crocheted Softies: 18 Adorable Animals from Around the World. The book was generous sent to me by Martingale and I am in the process of reviewing it.
- An horrible yet endearing pink beaded mini dress a la 1985. I hope to revive it back to 2012 with a killer pair of nude pumps.
My visit to Country Threads was awesome. Connie and Mary are celebrating their 30th year in business together and it is easy to see why they have been so successful. The shop is so welcoming and the ladies are a hoot! I didn’t stop smiling all day. I have been on a crocheting streak lately but my visit to Country Threads is pulling me back to quilting.
My “technical” reason for the visit was to teach Mary to use her new blog, Country Threads Chicken Scratch. I was pleased to be featured in her first post, playing with one of the many pets in the shop.
I visited with Mom on Friday morning and met Spencer at an estate sale that afternoon in Dyersville. The auction deserves a post all its own because it. was. awesome. (Spoiler alert: Free sewing machines)
