Pressure Cooker 365 Recipe #33: One Minutes Golden Quinoa
On November 17, 2012 I married the love of my life and met a new love: My pressure cooker!
To spread the love I’m using my pressure cooker every day and sharing the recipes on my blog.
I loved my job again today! Lori’s students had the HyVee dietician visit to share their NuVal system and encourage the kids to try new healthy foods. I watched the presentation during my prep period and was *so proud* that my former Food and Nutrition students knew what quinoa was and how to pronounce it! Unfortunately I agreed with my student’s analysis that quinoa tasted like “dirty bird seed.”
The dietician agreed and said that quinoa had a bland flavor that made a great blank slate. She also suggested rinsing the quinoa before cooking to improve flavor. That invoked a quinoa craving, of course.
I followed this recipe from Hip Pressure Cooking and my opinion of “dirty bird seed” quinoa has completely changed. Now that I actually know how to prepare it (by following the excellent tutorial) I think quinoa is delicious!
I am going to lazily link to that recipe and just add a few notes…
- Rinsing quinoa makes all the difference!
- You will notice my quinoa is missing that fantastic neon yellow color…. It’s because I had no turmeric. Still delicious. I’m not sure what turmeric is for except to make scrambled tofu look like eggs.
- Dried cilantro sprinkled over top was a good choice.
- It’s pronounced KEEN-wa.
