LBD Love: Bandage Bodycon Dress from Express
I am at the age where it seems EVERYONE is getting married. Every event used to call for a new dress which adds up fast- even with thrift and consignment shopping. Three summers ago I fell in love with my black party dress from Express. It is perfect in so many ways. It is attractive without being overtly sexy, I can wear a normal bra with it, it is stretchy, and it is machine-washable. The initial cost of $80 was expensive at the time but has saved me money in the long run.
Just in the last year I wore it to my friend Kris’s wedding in January,
To his sister Haillie’s bachelorette party in March,
and to SEVERAL summer weddings. The dress had a final hurrah in September for Spencer’s cousin Tad’s wedding in September…
…and then it has been hanging in my closet since then.
Although I wouldn’t consider myself a minimalist I enjoy having just a few things and wearing them to pieces. I have been looking for an excuse to wear this dress again but my social calendar is lacking of special events. This week I attempted the impossible… could I make my favorite party dress work-appropriate?
I think yes!
This week I wore it with:
- “Merona Premium” Opaque tights- These tights are truly opaque and have lasted two seasons.
- My Dansko mary-jane shoes-I purchased these three years ago at $110 and they too have more than earned their cost-per-wear. Since then I have discovered Clog Outlet and will purchase shoes from there from now on.
- “Softest Boyfriend Cardi” from Old Navy- I have been annoyed with Old Navy’s shoddy workmanship in recent years but this cardigan is holding up quite nicely. It is a weekly favorite.
- Gray gingham scarf, strategically placed to make the dress more conservative. I safety pinned the scarf to the neckline and held the knot in place with a daisy enamel pin.
My favorite dress will be making frequent appearances in my work wardrobe.
