Handmade Handtowels to Brighten Your Bathroom
Between hand-me-downs and graduations, Spencer and I have amassed quite the collection of bath towels. I wanted some new hand towels to spruce up my new bathroom, but I thought I would try “making it do” first.
This old towel looked like a good candidate for a makeover.
Don’t you just hate it when they shrivel up like that? It is so hard to fold them neatly!
1. Trim off the wrinkled band for a nice, straight edge. Trim the remaining fabric into 14″ x 22″ rectangles. My towel yielded two rectangles with leftover bits for washclothes and rags.
2. Assemble 2 1/2″ binding strips. Red Pepper Quilts has an excellent binding tutorial that I won’t bother redoing, so check it out there. I wanted a scrappy binding so I used up my 2 1/2″ strip scrap collection first.
Chain piecing helps conserve thread and saves steps.
If you are new to quilting without a fabric stash, a jellyroll, explained here on Moda Bakeshop, is a great way to enjoy multiple prints.
3. Bind the “towels” according to the tutorial.
Bask in the glow of your bright new bathroom renovation!
I love when “making do” is not just a temporary solution, but a true improvement.
