Or, more correctly, hold your cup of tea.
Granny Square Sampler Coaster Set
Each of the four coaster measures 4” across without picot.
You will need
- #10 crochet thread in 5 colors: Red, Pink, Yellow, Blue, Purple
- #10 crochet thread in white
- #7 steel crochet hook
Notes:
Chain-3 at beginning of round counts as first double-crochet of round.
Refer to the Craft Yarn Council for standard abbreviations.
Basic Granny:
Round 1: Ch 4. In fourth ch from hook work 2 dc, ch 2, *3 dc, ch 2* twice, 3 dc, hdc to top of 4th ch.
Round 2: Ch 3. In sp formed by hdc at end of prev rnd work 2 dc, ch 2, 3 dc. *3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc* in each ch-2 sp. Join w sl st to first dc of rnd.
Round 3: Ch 3. Work 2 dc in same sp. Work 3 dc in each sp bet 3-dc groups and work 3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc in each ch-2 corner sp. Join w sl st to first dc.
Repeat Round 3 for all subsequent rounds.
Joining Round:
Work round as for Basic Granny. On edges to be joined to other squares work 1 sc in opposite square between every ch-3 group and in each ch-2 corner sp.
Picot Edge:
With white thread, join with sc in any dc. Sc in next 2 sp. *Ch 3, sl st in 3rd ch from hook (picot made), sc in next 3 st* around. Join w sl st to first sc of rnd.
Coaster #1:
Rounds 1&2: Pink
Rounds 3&4: Yellow
Rounds 5&6: Blue
Rounds 7&8: Purple
Rounds 9&10: Red
Weave in all ends and work picot edging.
Coaster #2:
Work two Basic Granny squares as follows:
Round 1: Pink
Round 2: Yellow
Round 3: Blue
Round 4: Purple
Round 5: Red
Lay out blocks as pictured.
Work two Basic Granny squares as follows:
Round 1: Red
Round 2: Purple
Round 3: Blue
Round 4: Yellow
Round 5: Work joining round in pink.
Weave in all ends and work picot edging.
Coaster #3
Work two Basic Granny squares as follows:
Rounds 1&2: Purple
Rounds 3&4: Yellow
Lay out blocks as pictured. Work two Basic Granny squares as follows:
Rounds 1&2: Red
Round 3: Blue
Round 4: Work joining round in blue
Work 2 rounds in pink.
Weave in all ends and work picot edging.
Coaster #4
Work five Basic Granny squares as follows:
Rounds 1&2: Purple
Round 3: Yellow
Lay out blocks as pictured. Work four Basic Granny squares as follows:
Rounds 1&2: Red
Round 3: Work joining round in blue
Weave in all ends and work picot edging.

So delicate and tiny! I’ve made granny squares, but usually with thick cotton yarn – I don’t think I’ve ever made granny squares that little, and these are adorable and beautiful!
