I like to go on little healthiness-spurts. Like pretending that I do not drink coffee, for example.
I totally drink coffee. I just don’t buy it at the grocery store. Rather, I have not bought it in the last month. Thrifty logic would tell you to always make your coffee at home, but I disagree. When there is coffee in my home I drink it. A LOT of it. So much coffee that I buy two packages each month at a cost of nearly $20.
This is not so thrifty.
My new plan, which is working quite well, is to make-believe that coffee is a great big treat. On Mondays the coffee shop on campus has $1 medium-sized coffee, with $.10 off if you know the trivia.
I also get to drink whatever I want at work, including coffee. So now, instead of drinking soda all night, I drink water and “treat” myself with a cup of decaff at the end of the night.
I will refer back to the great tightwad, Amy Dacyczyn, for this one. I remember reading in one of her books how thrilled her children were when they each got an inexpensive ice cream cone. They didn’t feel like they were missing out on a Sunday or anything else more elaborate, because the ice cream was such a treat.
This is my new “trick” on coffee. Now when I go out with friends I am thrilled with my plain-and-tall black coffee and don’t feel the need to upgrade to a mocha-grande-what-not.
Any-who, before I got into my very long story about self-trickery, I was going to tell you of a free coffee opportunity!
When you bring in a re-usable tumbler to any Starbucks on Friday Thursday, April 15 (that’s tomorrow!), you get it filled with coffee for free!
Pretty cool, right? Not like you wouldn’t bring your own tumbler in anyway…
So, to tie it all up, I am very excited for Friday Thursday! Usually I would be all, “Whoop-ding I can make my own coffee at home” but now, this is an EVENT! Coffee is a TREAT!
