Combat rising food prices with a potato-only diet
How do you plan to cope with the expected rise in food costs?
How about a potatoes-only diet?
According to this article, Chris Voigt of Lake Moses, Washington is on a 60-day white-potatoes only diet to protest WIC restrictions. The federal Women, Infant, and Children program does not allow the purchase of potatoes with vouchers.
I wonder if I should show some Iowa pride with a corn-only diet? Definitely not as much fun as potatoes! Corn is not such a thrifty choice either, as it is the major culprit for the expected rise in food costs. Corn is in demand for fuel, which hikes the corn price up, which makes it more expensive for farmers to feed animals, which leads to an increase in meat, eggs, and dairy.
Next time I can buy five pounds of potatoes for $.79 I will have to give this a try. Just kidding!
