It was a sad day when this glove lost it’s mate a few years ago. I had been wearing them nearly a decade, although someone loved them long before I found them at a thrift shop. I found the glove in a drawer while home over break and decided to try recreating them. Here is my result, with a pattern to share with you.
These gloves knit up quick at 4 stitches to an inch on size 10 DPNs with chunky yarn. I used yarn from repurposed sweaters, but you could easily make these with two balls of your favorite.
In addition to (4) Size 10 DPNs, you will need two stitch holders and scrap yarn for the thumb stitches. I used two colors of yarn: White (A) and Gray (B).
To begin:
Glove:
Make 2.
With A, CO 36. Divide evenly onto 3 needles: 12 on each.
Round 1: With A, K around.
Round 2: K 2 B (K 3 A, K 3 B) 5 times, K 3 A, K 1 B.
Round 3: (K 3 B, K 3 A) around.
Round 4: With B, K around.
Round 5: Same as for Round 3.
Round 6: K 1 A (K 3 B, K 3 A) 5 times, K 3 B, K 2 A.
Round 7: With A, K around.
Round 8: Same as for Round 6.
Round 9: K 2 A (K 3 B, K 3 A) 5 times, K 3 B, K 1 A.
Round 10: With B, K around.
Round 11: Same as for Round 9.
Round 12: (K 3 A, K 3 B) around.
Round 13: With A, K around.
Round 14: Same as for Round 12.
Round 15: K 1 B (K 3 A, K 3 B) 5 times, K 3 A, K 2 B.
Round 16: With B, K around.
Round 17: Same as for Round 15.
Round 18: K 2 B (K 3 A, K 3 B) 5 times, K 3 A, K 1 B.
Round 19: With A, K around.
Round 20: Same as for Round 18.
Round 21: (K 3 B, K 3 A) around.
Round 22: With B (K 6, M 1) around: 6 stitches increased for 42 stitches total.
Divide for Thumb:
Round 23: With A, K 16, place next 10 stitches on scrap yarn, K to end.
Rounds 24 & 26: With B, K around.
Rounds 25 & 27: With A, K around.
Round 28: With B,(K 4, M 1) around: 8 stitches increased for 40 stitches total.
Work fingers:
Round 29: With A, K 5. Slip next 15 stitches to stitch holder, Slip next 15 stitches on separate stitch holder. K 5.
For little finger:
Divide ‘live’ stitches to three needles.
Finger, Round 1: With B, K around.
Round 2: With A, K around.
Repeat rows 1 and 2 once more.
With B, K 6 rounds even.
Next Round: K 2 tog around.
Cut yarn leaving long tail. Draw yarn through all loops on needles, draw tight. Tie off.
For each finger:
Slip next 5 stitches from first stitch holder to DPN. Slip next 5 stitches from second stitch holder to DPN.
With glove facing as if it fits the ‘right’ hand, start round with the stitch closest to the previous finger worked.
With A and first DPN, K 4. With second DPN, K 4. With third DPN, K 2, pick up two stitches from base of previously worked finger.
With B, K one round.
With A, K one round.
Repeat previous 2 rounds (3) times for ring finger, (4) times for middle finger, and (3) times for index finger.
With B, K 6 rounds even.
Next Round: K 2 tog around.
Cut yarn leaving long tail. Draw yarn through all loops on needles, draw tight. Tie off.
Work Thumb:
With glove facing as in it fits the ‘right’ hand, with A, and first DPN, pick up and K 4 stitches from scrap yarn. With second DPN, pick up and K 4 stitches from scrap yarn. With third DPN, pick up and K 2 stitches from scrap yarn and pick up 2 stitches between base of thumb and ‘hand’ of glove.
With B, K one round.
With A, K one round.
Repeat previous 2 rounds (1) time.
With B, K 6 rounds even.
Next Round: K 2 tog around.
Cut yarn leaving long tail. Draw yarn through all loops on needles, draw tight. Tie off.
Weave in all ends. Block according to appropriate method for yarn used.
I got a little too excited about posting this pattern, so the gloves aren’t blocked yet. The cuff should lay flat after I get a chance to do that.:)
I hope you love these gloves as much as I did/do. The great design makes them look complicated, but they knit up quick for great gifting.

Wow…I am SO impressed girly-girl. You really did GREAT on those. Those gloves must have been from when you were in 7th grade. They REALLY have been loved!
