I’ve recently discovered Anthropologie through Mommy Outfit posts on Samster Mommy. I adore this company from afar as a store does not exist within a 200 mile radius of either of my homes. And, even if they were close by I couldn’t bring myself to spend that kind of money on clothes that look like great thrift store finds. Great thrift store finds.
Anyway, I fell in love with a scarf on Anthropologie that I thought I could duplicate. And I did, using yarn from an old sweater. I wrote this pattern (and tested it!) so you can enjoy it too. I’ll wear one scarf and stash the tester for Compact-friendly gifting.
Bobble Cable Ascot
Materials
Worsted weight yarn (I used acrylic yarn from an unraveled sweater)
(1) pair US size 10 knitting needles or size needed to obtain gauge
(1) US size 10 double pointed needle
Cable needle
Stitch holder or scrap yarn
Gauge
4 stitches in garter stitch= 1”
Special Abbreviations
C3L= Slip next 3 stitches to cable needle, hold to front, K 3, K 3 from cable needle.
M 1= Make 1
Notes
To Work Bobble
K, P, K, P into next stitch, turn, P 4, turn, (P 2 tog) twice, turn, K 2 tog.
Directions
Cast on 10.
Row 1: K 2, P 6 (this is the cable), K 2.
Rows 2 & 4: K 1, M 1, K to end.
Row 3 and all odd numbered rows: K 1, M 1, K to cable, P 6, K to end.
Row 6: K 1, M 1, K 2, work bobble, C3L, K to end.
Rows 8 & 10: K 1, M 1, K to end.
Row 12: K 1, M 1, K 6, C3L, work bobble, K to end.
Rows 14& 16: K 1, M 1, K to end.
Row 18: K 1, M 1, K 8, work bobble, C3L, K to end.
Row 20: Knit.
Row 21: K 11, P 6, K 11.
Repeat rows 20 and 21 once more.
Row 24: K 11, C3L, K 11.
Rows 25, 27, 29 & 31: K 11, P 3, K 14.
Rows 26, 28 & 30: Knit.
Divide for ribbing slot
Row 32: (K1, Sl next st to DPN held to back of work) across.
Continue to work on stitches on right side of work.
Work in K 1, P 1, ribbing for 15 rows, ending with wrong side row. Slip these stitches to a stitch holder. Do not cut yarn.
Working off stitches held on DPN, attach new ball of yarn and work in K 1, P 1 ribbing for 15 rows. Cut yarn.
Using yarn from first ribbing piece worked (K 1 from stitch holder, K 1 from back ribbing piece) across.
Work main body of scarf
Row 1 and all wrong side rows: K 11, P 6, K 11.
Rows 2 & 4: Knit.
Row 6: K 10, work bobble, C3L, K 11.
Rows 8 & 10: Knit.
Row 12: K 11, C3L, work bobble, K 10.
Rows 14 & 16: Knit.
Row 18: K 11, C3L, K 11.
Rows 20-24: Same as for 14-18.
Repeat rows 1-24 four or five times more and rows 14-16 once more.
The scarf shown used five repeats. To create a closer fitting ascot use only four repeats.
Ribbing
Row 1: (wrong side) (K 2 tog, P 2 tog) across.
Row 2: (K 1, P 1) across.
Repeat Row 2 (12) times, ending with wrong side row.
Next Row: K and P into each stitch across for 28 stitches total.
End of Scarf
Rows 1, 3, 5, and 7 (Wrong Side): K 14, P 3, K 11.
Rows 2, 4, and 6: Knit
Row 8: K 11, C3L, K 11.
Row 9: K 11, P 6 (this is the cable), K 11.
Row 10: Knit.
Repeat rows 9 & 10 once.
Row 13: K 11, P 6, K 11.
Row 14: K 1, K 2 tog, K 7, work bobble, C3L, K to end.
Row 15 and all odd rows from here: K 1 K 2 tog, K to cable, P 6, K to end.
Rows 16 & 18: K 1, K 2 tog, K to end.
Row 20: K 1, K 2 tog, K 5, C3L, work bobble, K to end.
Rows 22 & 24: Same as for 16 and 18.
Row 26: K 1, K 2 tog, K 1, work bobble, C3L, K to end.
Row 28: K1, K2 tog, K across.
Row 30: Bind off.
