72 Days For Handmade Gifts!
Instead of doing the math myself I googled “How many days until Christmas” and several sources reminded me that I only have 72 days to create handmade gifts for all of my loved ones. Every year I plan to give only handmade gifts but it never works out. Except for Mom, but that is because she starts “taking me yarn shopping” in January. Luckily, Judy from Patchwork Times is hosting a Mr. Linky of handmade gift ideas!
My favorite handmade gift is a dishcloth like this Checker-Square garter dishcloth. I knit them in a set or sometimes I add something else to make it a little more “complete.” I really like Mrs. Meyer’s holiday-scented cleaning kits for a hostess gift or a Burt’s Bees baby bath set for a baby gift.
As much as I like handmade gifts for the warm n’ fuzzies, I can’t lie- they are usually less expensive. My favorite handmade items usually involve repurposing sweaters. For the price of some acrylic yarn I can purchase a wool/cotton blend sweater and make some lovely “green” gifts.
One of my favorite accessories is my bobble-cable ascot. I modeled the pattern from a scarf by Anthropologie. It is made from a hand-me-down sweater of my sister’s. I made an ascot for her too, and she loves it! An ascot is great because it offers the wow factor of a scarf but can be made with just a skein or two of yarn. And it knits up really quick!
You will see that I have a “Free Patterns” tab above with links to my original patterns. As much as I love my houndstooth vintage reproduction gloves, my most popular patterns, according to Ravelry are the Simple Crocheted Necklace and the Basic Plarn Tote. Check it out and see what you think!
Better get to work! Only 72 days!
